Games I play, in order of current preference:

• Heavy Gear

  Heavy Gear is like BattleTech done better. It is an appropriately-detailed small mecha combat wargame and roleplaying system. The Heavy Gear home page is here.

• RoboTech

  RoboTech is a near-future role-playing game from Palladium based on a popular animated series from Japan. It came out slightly before BattleTech, whose popularity can somewhat be attributed to it. I play in a campaign run by Trevor Vert, my character is Amy Li, a destroid pilot who has recently been promoted to commander of destroid forces on the backwater planet we happen to be stuck on. Here's some pictures of Macross mecha designs, many based on the animated series. By the way, the picture on the top of this page is what Amy "Stryker" looked like during her destroid combat training in Venezuela.

• Star Trek

  I'm in a Star Trek campaign run by Markus Nee in which I play the acting commander of the U.S.S. Darryl Adin. The campaign uses modified Shadowrun rules and has a home page right here.

• Phoenix Command

  Phoenix Command is a small arms combat system made by Leading Edge games user the talented Barry Nakazono. He's the man. This game is THE MOST ACCURATE simulation of either small arms or vehicular combat you will find anywhere. If anyone made a more accurate system, I would know about it. • BattleTech

  I've played this game more than any other. Its a giant mecha combat game with easy rules, unrealistic action, but a very interesting and documented universe. Game are tons of fun, and the number of mecha is astounding. Once an extremely popular game, it is now on the wane. I must own nearly everything ever made for the game in the first 6 years. Yes, that includes the old Dropships/Jumpships. A BattleTech Hotlist

• Shadowrun

  Shadowrun is one of the most popular role-playing games on the market today. When I first saw it back in '88 I thought it would bomb. I have played in two campaigns, and enjoyed them both. The most attractive aspect of the game is the abstract combat rules, they're fast and the battles are fun. Paolo Marcucci's Shadowrun Site, the last word.

• MegaTraveller

  An engineer's game. This is where I got started in starship design. The vehicle construction rules are firmly entrenched in realism with very few abstractions (like in Heavy Gear). I have studies this system quite a lot, although I have never played. Here is a large Traveller Web Site.

• Twilight 2000

  A decent role-playing system merged with an excellent world: Europe after nuclear war. The players are soldiers remaining from a large European ground conflict left to fend for themselves on an unfriendly landscape.

• Um, that's it.
